Warehouse Extension to ASOS Warehouse, Barnsley

Construction of two separate 19m high bay extensions of 65,000 sq. ft and 75,000 sq. ft to an existing warehouse facility occupied by ASOS.

The site was previously a colliery and subject to historic uncontrolled back filling. The two extensions were required by ASOS as fully automated crane storage facilities. The operation of the existing warehouse and round the clock vehicle movements were maintained at all times during the construction works.

Knight Webb led the planning and agreement of the detailed performance specifications required to achieve ASOS’s automation criteria.   This required the involvement of specialist geotechnical consultants to model the long term performance of the underlying soils.  The works were then managed with continual testing to demonstrate that the agreed ground solution methodology was being achieved.
