Successful completion for Urban Outfitters

Conception to Completion

We are delighted to announce that Practical Completion has been achieved on the new 40,494 m2 building for American lifestyle retailer Urban Outfitters (URBN) at Peterborough.

Knight Webb were initially appointed by Urban Outfitters to manage the pre-construction phase incorporating site/developer selection, scope of works, planning, contractor selection and cost control.

The process of defining the scope of works was lead by Knight Webb with an initial scoping questionnaire and series of meetings which was then developed into a full turnkey specification. This specification then formed part of the request for proposals sent out to the development market where Knight Webb were also part of the review team.

The project commenced in April 19 and Knight Webb Ltd were appointed by Roxhill Developments as Employer’s Agent for the Contract. This appointment continues the run of successful projects which have been undertaken for Roxhill Developments on the Peterborough Gateway scheme.

This £26m project comprises design and construction of a single storey 37,391 m2 Warehouse/Distribution unit with 2,517 m2  three storey main office accommodation and a further 585 m2 two storey Hub office with all associated external works. Further additions to the scope of works have included a 2 storey mezzanine totalling 9,201 m2 capable of being extended to a third floor, Warehouse and Office Sprinklers, Warehouse Fire Alarm, Warehouse and Office Public Address System, Data and IT Containment and Cabling and enhancements to the Offices.

Throughout the project Knight Webb have worked with the Owner Urban Outfitters to incorporate 8 separate Early Access areas within the warehouse to allow URBN to commence installation of their Stingray Shuttle System, Mini Load Racking and Conveyor System which is due for completion in late autumn.

Over the past three months the project has been challenging with the impact of Covid-19. Huge credit goes to everyone involved in the project for the way activities on site and working roles have been safely adapted in order to bring the completion of the project successfully in on time.

Moving forward Knight Webb will continue working with Urban Outfitters up until the operation of the building commences.
